Chairman Ramón Romero, Jr. Responds to Governor Abbott’s State of the State Speech
AUSTIN, TX — Chairman Ramón Romero, Jr. issued the following statement in response to Governor Abbott’s State of the State speech:
“Last night, Governor Abbott said he loves our state and that being Texan means something—but that shouldn’t mean rolling over to the whims of Washington, D.C. After more
than a decade in office, he’s only now talking about investing in our workforce, fully funding public schools, and paying teachers what they deserve—while completely ignoring how the
Trump Tariff Tax will drive up prices on gas, food, and essential goods. Ironically, he made these omissions while we were at the Arnold Oil Company’s automobile warehouse, a business
directly impacted by these reckless tariffs. Texas may be booming, but families are struggling as costs skyrocket and wages lag behind. And while he talks tough on border security, he failed to mention how 25 percent tariffs on our top trading partners, Mexico and Canada, will amount to a tax on all Texans. We need real leadership that lowers costs, strengthens our workforce, and puts families first.”
