AUSTIN, TX — Today, President Donald Trump signed two executive orders targeting birthright citizenship and alleged birth tourism, marking the administration’s latest effort to narrow who is entitled to U.S. citizenship at birth following the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 30 decision affirming birthright citizenship.
In response, Texas Mexican American Legislative Caucus Chair Ramón Romero Jr. issued the following statement:
“President Trump doesn’t know how to take no for an answer. He’s challenging the very institutions that make our democracy work and refusing to accept that our branches of government are equal. How many more times are we going to question whether American children are really American? Texans are worried about paying their bills and filling up their gas tanks. They need leaders focused on those challenges, not on questioning the citizenship of children born in the United States.”
