AUSTIN, TX — On the opening day of the 89th Texas Legislative Session, the Texas House of Representatives voted for State Representative Dustin Burrows as Speaker of the Texas House.
Texas State Representative Ramón Romero, Jr., Chairman of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus (MALC), released the following statement:
“We’re encouraged by Speaker Burrows’ words where he quoted former State Representative Garnet Coleman, ‘We serve the same people, poor people, rich people, and everyone in between. We serve all Texans.’ These words are a powerful reminder that every Texan matters and establishes an expectation for the Texas House and its members that this will be a productive session where all Texans will benefit.
As the oldest and largest Mexican American Legislative Caucus in the nation, we have spent over 50 years working across party lines to advocate for the needs of Latino communities across Texas. Our work remains focused on championing policies that are pro-education, pro-business, pro-working families, and pro-Texans.”
